December was ushered in with the first official snowfall of the season here in Vernon, British Columbia, Canada. And when it is cold and snowy outside I look to drinks to warm me up especially after snow shoveling.
There are a lot of great hot beverages of all kinds in the marketplace that offer warm hugs in a mug: tea, coffee, lattes, hot chocolate, golden mylk, and more. I love to support local businesses who make it their specialty creating both traditional and unique hot liquid satisfaction never mind the countless reputable bloggers who share their recipe delights with us.
So why create a hot drink when there are so many others to choose from?
This hot drink combines some of my favourite spices with carob as the stand in for chocolate since I can be sensitive to caffeine especially in beverages. As a result, I try to use carob instead of chocolate whenever possible. While I can enjoy a little bit of chocolate I need to pay attention to the time of day if consuming; I definitely avoid eating chocolate in the evening.
You could use cacao powder instead of carob powder in this recipe but if you have any family members or friends who are chocolate sensitive or intolerant, I’m confident this spicy chocolate-like drink will be a welcome hot beverage on those cold winter days or nights.
